Multi-instrumental loop artist Soná has been taking the London indie music scene by storm since arriving in August 2021. A year full of accomplishments: headlining the legendary Camden Assembly, supporting Kat Adamou at the famous o2 Academy Islington, joining the Sofar Sounds London roster, completing a successful tour of Belgium and The Netherlands, and collaborating with the talented Samuel Andryk on their looped version of Wicked Game. This on the back of playing the legendary festival New Year’s Eve on the Hill in Gippsland, Victoria (Australia), and a feature in Australia’s number one indie music publication Happy Mag - we see an artist making waves with a sound of their own.

On the soundscape, Aaron Lockyer, the multi-instrumental loop artist also known as Soná, puts his full range of musical talents on full display. It is a deep dive into the sounds of musical layering, performed live. Guitars, piano/keys, synth, bass, percussion and deep, poetic songwriting accompany Oliver Lord’s outstanding vocal range and delivery. A set of ambient, melancholy sounds and stories, layered, mixed and performed live from the ground-up, moving through genres and grooves - indie folk/pop, alt-pop, ambient trip hop, neo-soul - one after the other into another. His timbered, emotive vocals and melancholy storytelling complete the picture, and he has also collaborated with the likes of Samuel Andryk (Wicked Game) and Oliver Lord (Crazy and To Trust Someone) in his releases.

“Such mastery of his particular sonic lane is perhaps to be expected, since Soná has long been making a name for himself in both his Adelaide hometown and abroad”, says Happy Mag. Sinusoidal adds that Soná’s is a “distinct and unparalleled sound that will leave you hooked”… Soná’s is a musical journey to uncharted territories that leaves you mesmerized and entranced with its powerful riffs, captivating vocals, and spellbinding melodies.” Be sure to catch Soná live, this one-man band now accompanied by a first class vocalist, captivating audiences from the performance art taking place onstage.

Listen to Soná’s looped take of Wicked Game

With the incredible vocal performance of Samuel Andryk

On his first tour of 2023, Soná headlined XXX Candles at WIHH Gallery in Amsterdam! Samuel Andryk was to be the first to perform that night, and it was the night before that the two artists hatched the idea to perform a song together.

Soná retreated to his friend’s apartment where he jumped on the kit to came up with a looped masterpiece of instrumentation of Chris Isaak’s Wicked Game. The day of the performance, an hour or so of rehearsal later and this stunning track was born.

Listen below, and watch the final rehearsal video from Amsterdam too!

A qualified and experienced lawyer, head down and rolling on a 6 figure salary, bossing it, Soná’s decided all that jazz, all that stress, all those hours were not his vibe. It was a choice to fall from grace having established himself a successful career, to leave it all behind and chase a dream. A story full of inspiration and dedication.
